Who's behind this site

This site was created by Rob Thesing, a longtime Minneapolis resident and Minneapolis parent. It is independent. It is not affiliated with, funded by or reviewed by Minneapolis Public Schools, any school, any parent foundation or any candidate or campaign.

I started it because the decisions being made about Minneapolis schools this fall will shape the city for decades, and most families I talk to don't know they're happening. The information is public, but it's scattered across board packets, slide decks and meeting videos. This site puts it in one place.

Our standard

  • Facts are sourced. Numbers link to the document or article they came from.
  • Argument is labeled. This site makes the case for stopping the Nov 10 vote. Sections that argue are marked "Our argument." Everything else aims to be accurate for anyone, whatever they think about closures.
  • Uncertainty is shown. Where sources disagree, like the size of the deficit, we give the range. Where something isn't known yet, we say so.
  • We show the other side. The case for waiting includes the strongest counterarguments, stated fairly.
  • Corrections are public. If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the correction in Updates.
